Tripod – 1 year old male Cairn Terrier Cross

Tripod is a 1 year old male Cairn Terrier Cross. He came into rescue as a stray. He was involved in a road traffic accident where his back leg was damaged and had to be amputated. He was not microchipped and no owner came forward to claim him. In terms of how he became a stray none of us are guessing why – this little guy is fast! He darts through a door before you even know it’s opening and he can clear a 6ft fence with ease. I’m guessing even with 1 leg missing! He is an absolute bundle of fun, always curious and ready for action or to stir up some trouble!

He is a comical little pocket rocket who is surprisingly small, a complete foodie and a master cuddle bug! We’ve trimmed him up, neutered him, given him a round of vaccines and a microchip and he’s now good to go. He walks great on the lead, loves other dogs, loves people and literally loves life! He is straightforward, uncomplicated and will fit in seamlessly into any home. I’m actually totally jealous because he’s so adorable I would love to keep him.

At this age Tripod will fit in seamlessly to most homes but it is up to the adopter to set him up to succeed. Please be aware before enquiring that he will need further work with his house training, however he has been quite clean in kennels aside from sneakily cocking his leg on things. He would benefit from general politeness training as he jumps up and is quite unruly although at his size and being knee high to a grasshopper it’s not the end of the world, but good practice to install good training. He is incredibly affectionate and at a year old will not be able to tolerate a home with long working hours.

We feel he would do well in a home as a solo dog or with another confident dog to learn from. Hes not fussed. Tripod will benefit from a home that is active; he loves to walk and when he’s regularly exercised he is calm. Given that he only has 3 legs his weight will need to be kept down in order to not put extra strain on his remaining back leg. Swimming is an excellent source of exercise for tripawds and will help their limbs and joints stay healthy without putting any added stress on them. A tired dog is a happy dog we always say.

Tripod is in perfect health and has no issues jumping on sofas/beds or going up and down stairs. Tripawds have very few limitations and a whole lot of love to give. Provide them with the care they need and they’ll go on to live long and happy lives, no extra fuss required.

Who out there would like to keep Tripod entertained for the rest of his days?
